Etsy profit calculator

Handmade margins die when materials and packaging are ignored. This page takes the Etsy fee stack, subtracts material/labor you enter, and shows whether the listing price is a hobby donation.

FEE STACK · Etsy

Estimate only — not your seller payout.

When to use — and when not to

When to use

New SKU costing; raising prices after supply costs moved; comparing “free shipping” against baking postage into the item price.

When not to

Fees-only curiosity → Etsy fee calculator. Wholesale / production planner beyond one unit — split per unit first.

Assumptions

Same Etsy fee defaults. profit = order − fees − materials − packaging − your_label_cost.

Worked examples

$45 item + $0 ship; materials $14; label $4.20; no ads

Fees on $45 ≈ $4.70 → profit ≈ $22.10

Same with $6 shipping charged and $6.50 label

Higher fee base + label drag — profit may fall even if “shipping is paid.”

Charged shipping is not free money.

How it calculates

Fees as Etsy fee page → subtract costs → margin %

Stack the fee lines, then read payout (and profit when costs are entered).

  1. Enter order totals and fee defaults.
  2. Add materials and label cost.
  3. Toggle Offsite Ads if attributed.
  4. Read profit on the stack.

Common traps

  • Packaging and inserts are real COGS.
  • Your time at $0 makes every SKU look fine until you scale.
  • Currency conversion fees if payout currency differs.
  • One star refund is not in the model.

FAQ

Take the order total (item plus shipping and gift wrap you charge), subtract Etsy’s fee stack, then subtract materials/labor and the label you paid. That is unit planning profit for one order — not your annual tax return.
