Etsy fee calculator

Etsy fees are three ordinary lines people forget to add together: listing fee, transaction percent on (price + shipping + gift wrap), and payment processing. Offsite Ads, when attributed, is a fourth line that can dwarf the rest. This page stacks them for a US-seller default you can override.

When to use — and when not to

When to use

Pricing a new listing; deciding whether to bump shipping separately; sanity-checking an Offsite Ads sale.

When not to

Full craft COGS profit → Etsy profit calculator. Non-US processing rates — change the processing fields.

Assumptions

Listing $0.20 per sale model line. Transaction 6.5%. Processing 3% + $0.25 (US). Offsite Ads off by default.

Worked examples

$30 item + $5 shipping, no ads

Listing $0.20 + txn $2.275 + proc ≈ $1.30 → fees ≈ $3.78; payout before cost ≈ $31.22

Same with 15% Offsite Ads

+$5.25 ads → fees ≈ $9.03

That is why “Etsy takes ~10%” slogans fail on ad-attributed orders.

How it calculates

order = item + shipping + gift_wrap
listing = 0.20
transaction = order × 0.065
processing = order × 0.03 + 0.25
offsite = order × ads_pct if attributed
total_fees = sum
payout_before_cost = order − total_fees

Stack the fee lines, then read payout (and profit when costs are entered).

  1. Enter item price and shipping charged.
  2. Leave Offsite Ads at 0 unless the sale was attributed.
  3. Override processing if your country differs.
  4. Read the fee stack.

Common traps

  • Transaction applies to shipping you charge.
  • Processing often applies to a wider base than transaction.
  • Listing renewals every 4 months still cost money if unsold.
  • Auto-renewed Offsite Ads may be mandatory above thresholds.

FAQ

On a simple US-style sale you often see listing, transaction percent, and payment processing stack to roughly low-double-digit percent before Offsite Ads. Ads attributed to a sale can push the take much higher. Run your price and shipping through the stack instead of guessing one vibe percent.
