eBay fee calculator

eBay does not take “about 13%” as a vibe. For most US business categories you pay a final value fee on the total sale (item price plus shipping the buyer paid), plus a small per-order fee. This page stacks those lines, shows effective fee rate, and leaves room for promoted listings if you fill them in. It does not pull your live Seller Hub rates. If you have a Store discount or a weird category, override the percent.

When to use — and when not to

When to use

Pricing a thrift flip before you list; checking whether free shipping still leaves room after FVF on shipping; teaching a helper why a $12 sale is not “$12 minus nothing.”

When not to

Private-seller zero-fee edge cases you already confirmed in Seller Hub — just use Hub. Need profit after item cost? → eBay profit calculator. Need only the FVF math story? → final value fee calculator.

Assumptions

Default most-categories FVF 13.6% up to $7,500 then 2.35%; per-order $0.30 if total ≤ $10 else $0.40; sale base = item + buyer-paid shipping. Promoted % optional. Rates as of table date — override anytime.

Worked examples

Item $50, shipping $0, most categories, no ads

FVF ≈ $6.80 + per-order $0.40 → fees ≈ $7.20; payout before cost ≈ $42.80

Charging $8 shipping raises the FVF base.

Item $9, shipping $0

FVF ≈ $1.22 + per-order $0.30 → fees ≈ $1.52

Sub-$10 orders use the lower fixed fee.

How it calculates

total_sale = item_price + buyer_shipping
fvf = tiered_percent(total_sale, category_rate)
per_order = 0.30 if total_sale ≤ 10 else 0.40
promoted = total_sale × promoted_pct (optional)
total_fees = fvf + per_order + promoted (+ intl if on)
payout_before_cost = total_sale − total_fees

Stack the fee lines, then read payout (and profit when costs are entered).

  1. Enter item price and any shipping the buyer pays.
  2. Pick or override the final value fee percent.
  3. Add promoted listings % or international fee if they apply.
  4. Read the fee stack and payout before cost.

Common traps

  • Shipping you charge is usually in the FVF base.
  • Do not add PayPal on top for typical US managed payments.
  • Store / Top Rated discounts change the percent — override the default.
  • Insertion fees after free allotments are not the main path here.

FAQ

For most US business categories, plan on about 13.6% final value fee on the total sale (item plus shipping the buyer paid), plus a $0.30 or $0.40 per-order fee. Store discounts and category exceptions change that — confirm in Seller Hub and override the percent here when Hub disagrees.
